I brought home some Team Umizoomi coloring pages from work for the kids. Pearl was so excited she started singing this song: I can do anything on my desk! Doing great! -Morgan Oh boy. The other day I noticed that Hish the goldfish wasn’t eating his food like he usually does and he was swimming rather slowly. I hoped for the best, but then a couple days ago he started swimming upside-down. Dad was over and he changed the water and even put him in the fridge to cool Hish down, but sadly we woke up this morning to find that after two glorious years, Hish had given up the fight. Morgan and I weren’t sure what to do. We discussed explaining that Hish died and went to Heaven, but then we thought that if we told Pearl that her fish died and then got her another one she might not grasp the concept. After some back and forth I decided to do what I do best: I made up an elaborate story! I told Pearl that Hish was on a play date at the pet store and we had to go pick him up. She was very excited to see Hish’s friends. We went to the tank and after some searching she spotted “him.” The nice lady got “Hish” out, we put him back in his bowl, and all is right with the world again! I’m not sure if it was the right thing to do, and I know that we’re going to have to explain this stuff to her eventually, but I had enough trouble defining the word “greed” to her the other day so for now we’re sticking to our story! xoxo Pearl’s class went to the local orchard for an apple picking field trip today. It was so cute! First, Pearl got to feed the chickens, roosters and goats (actually, she dumped out her cup of food as soon as she got it but fortunately her friend shared some of his food with her). After that, we went into the orchard. Pearl was so particular about which apples she wanted to pick. Most of the kids had filled their bags by the time Pearl had two apples. When she’d finally filled her bag we joined the rest of her class for the best part of the trip: DOUGHNUTS! If that wasn’t fun enough, when we came home she got to play with Papa and Enzo! All in all, a great morning! So Pearl’s favorite shows is still Team Umizoomi. One of the characters, Bot, prefaces some lines with things like “Speeding Servers!” or “Dazzling Data” and Pearl has picked up on this. She works them into her playtime. She’ll say things like “Dazzling Data, look at all these blocks!” Well last night she invented her own, and starting saying “Spissoring Sparnbooms!” and jumping on the couch. -Morgan We’ll be putting up vacation photos soon, but before we get to that I wanted to share some pics from Pearl’s first day of Pre-School! The first step was for Papa to give her a cute new haircut! I knew she wouldn’t have a problem staying at the school because she and I had done the Parent and Tot class last year and she’s used to being on her own for an hour here and there at church or the gym. She has been so excited about it for days and this morning she woke up early and was ready to get going. We all know how much she loves owls so I got her a cute little owl backpack: We tried to get a nice, smiling “before” picture on the front stoop, but this is the best we got: We arrived at school and Pearl made herself at home when she saw her little friends (she and her friend weren’t as sad as they look in this picture): We wanted to linger, but thought a quick exit would make things easier and Pearl was fine when we left. It was such a strange feeling to drop her off for the whole morning! When we picked her up the teachers said she was great but in true Pearl-fashion she didn’t expand on much of her morning other than she had fun and colored with a green crayon. I’ll take that as a first day of school success! Of course, she was exhausted and when we tried to take her out for lunch she had a complete and total meltdown. Lesson learned. All in all, a pretty good start to the school year! I’m sure there will be lots more fun things to report so stay tuned! xoxo I took the kids to this huge car show in the village of Lake George while Jill stayed back and relaxed poolside at the Sagamore. Along the way I’d point out cars that would interest me and sometimes Pearl would comment too. We passed this one and I said “hey look Pearl, this car is called Cherry Pie.” She didn’t reply, but 30 minutes later we were almost on our way out when Pearl says, “Daddy, where’s the car called Cherry Pie?” So I circled back and tried to find this car again because it sounded like she was really interested in seeing it. I finally find it again, show Pearl and she says: “Daddy, where’s the car called Cherry Cake?!” I think she just wanted to say that joke the whole time. -Morgan
