My first week back at work went well. This morning Morgan took Pearl out for a walk while I had my Friday morning conference call. It’s been so nice that he’s been able to work from home several days a week! We take turns taking care of Pearl during the day so the other person has some quiet time to work and so far it’s worked out well.
This week was also my birthday! The three of us had a fun day together and then we had dinner with our friends Allison and Geoffe. Pearl was an angel and slept through the whole meal! It was a really nice evening out.
On Wednesday our friend Kate came out to Brooklyn to meet our little Pearl. I haven’t seen Kate in a while so it was nice to catch up while we took a stroll through the neighborhood.
Yesterday Pearl napped a little more than usual. She tends to get overtired and then fussy so it’s great when she actually stops looking around for a few moments to get some sleep. She’s eating like a champ too – she weighs almost 10 pounds now! I was actually starting to worry she was eating too much, but she seems pretty happy and healthy so we’ll just wait for her next visit to the pediatrician to make sure she’s on track as far as weight gain.
That’s all for now! Have a great weekend and we’ll post some more photos soon.
Just thought you might like to see her moving around for a minute. Here’s Pearl looking out the window of our a favorite restaurant, Bar Toto. Music by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.
We’ve been busy! I was very sick last week so Mom came down on Thursday to help us out with Pearl. It was really nice to have her here. She helped straighten up the apartment and even made us a home-cooked dinner. What a treat! On Friday the four of us drove back upstate where we spent a nice, relaxing weekend. She got to see Uncle Tate at the shop… Took a nap with her mommy… And even went for a ride on the swings with daddy…
On Saturday, Pearl’s future husband William came by for a visit with his mom, Elizabeth. Morgan and I are so used to our little Pearl that we were surprised at how big Will has gotten! He’s such a happy baby and he and Pearl seemed to hit it off.
On Saturday night Mom and Dad volunteered to babysit so Morgan and I could go out for dinner with Tate and Kyung to celebrate my birthday. It was really strange going out without our little peanut, but we had a great time and apparently Pearl was a sweet, sleeping angel for her grandparents (of course, she sleeps for them but as soon as Morgan and I try to get her in her crib she’s a bundle of energy).
On Sunday we went to church and afterwards Pearl finally got to meet her cousin Kristen. We were sad to leave, but we’ll be back upstate for the 4th of July weekend when we will have Pearl’s dedication ceremony.
Today is my first day back “at work.” I’m praying that all goes well with balancing my script supervising and mom duties, but Morgan will be home several days a week for the next two weeks so we’re hoping that helps with the transition.
Hope you’re all doing well and we’ll have some more updates for you soon!
This Sunday there was a street fair along Seventh Avenue in our neighborhood. We met up with Allison and Geoffe who walked with us. We also ran into Olexa, who we work with, and his wife Michelle. Their baby girl, Nina, was born just two days after Pearl! We took a walk up to Prospect Park this week, and tried out my Baby Björn. I liked that Pearl was kept close, and Peal liked that I can play with her feet. At the park, we saw some crews setting up for an outdoor Opera. Pearl enjoys spreading her toes while Mom and Daddy share a sandwich. We also stopped by the home depot to get a new air conditioner. Pearl took a ride in a shopping cart! What was left of Pearl’s umbilical cord finally fell off this week, so we were able to give her a proper bath. She calmed down after a couple of minutes. Mommy had a doctor’s visit and Pearl was fussy. Daddy had to change a couple of diapers in the trunk of our car! Daddy finally got her to calm down by walking her around outside. We popped into central park – see the skyscrapers in the background? And here’s a photo Grammy asked for, with Pearl in her Fancy Outfit!
Its been a busy week. Momma Tess is down from Hudson today and we’re all four driving back up tomorrow for the weekend. It’ll be nice to have some extra hands to rock Pearl to sleep!
The three of us are off to a fantastic first father’s day for me! Both Jill and Pearl gave me sweet father’s day cards! Also, I’ve got the official t-shirt to prove my worth. I think I’m going to wear this shirt out in no time! Jill also says we can get me the new iPhone 3G, so I’ll always have a digital photo album with which to brag about Pearl. We had our first meal at a restaurant with the new kid, and it went really well despite the rain. We ate our Bar Toto, one of our ‘favorite local restaurants’ just up the block from us. They have fantastic panini burgers, and Jill and I shared some wine. Well worth the wait for us both! Little Pearl was an angel and was very quiet through the rain. She’s napping now and we’re enjoying a quiet afternoon. Happy Fathers day to everyone! -Morgan
Pearl just wake up a couple of minutes ago, we’re going to get her some breakfast and then take her out for a walk! We’re off to buy more photo paper, I’ve seemed to have run out for some reason. -Morgan
Its been a couple days, so I thought I’d get a few photos up all at once. Enjoy the cuteness! Here’s cutie at the pediatrician. We took her in for a quick weight check. Would you believe she’s gained a whole pound since she left the hospital 12 days ago? She’s 9 pounds now. The doctor was very pleased and very impressed. Here she is on the exam table, right before she made a piddle on the paper. I think she knows what she’s done. Yesterday afternoon we went to Prospect Park for the first time with the little miss. She had a nice relaxing time. Jill was even comfortable nursing in public! Looks like she’s embarrassed to be seen with me, but she’s really just getting the blanket positioned. Tonight we went hat shopping in the neighborhood so we can have the sunshade of the stroller down when we go out for walks. Pearl isn’t really sure what’s going on but she’s putting up with the hat. Then we took our new hat out for a walk. Here’s the Queen and Princess in their matching pink! For the record, Jill is the Queen, and Pearl is the Princess. I’m not sure what my title is, but I’m happy as a clam with my new family.
Pearl is asleep, Morgan is working on the computer and I finally have a moment to give you all an update!
Things have been much crazier than I ever anticipated. Pearl is a very good baby, but it’s definitely tough to adjust to her sleeping and eating patterns! I’m still having some trouble with nursing which is really frustrating, but I’m trying to stay calm and take it day by day (some days are harder than others). Fortunately, we’ve gotten a lot of support. The O’Connell ladies have been so helpful with all my questions and small panic attacks so I have to thank them for all their great advice and support. We also got to go up to Hudson this weekend for a little break. Our apartment was starting to feel VERY small so we took a car trip (which Pearl loved) and used the weekend to hand off the baby to her grandparents whenever we needed some rest.
Now that the heat wave is over we are going to take advantage of the nice, sunny weather and head up to the park today. I might even try my baby sling for the first time!
That’s all for right now. I’m going to put up my feet for a few minutes before the queen of the house wakes up.
