So, this is our “due day.” We both know this isn’t an exact day where we have a baby by midnight, but Jill being Jill, she started having contractions this morning at 3:19am. They’ve been with her pretty much all day, though they haven’t been particularly regular or very long. We double checked with one of the OBGYNs and Jill’s dialated about 3cm now and she’s more than 50% effaced. So that’s good news that we’re moving along.
Up until today I had been frustrated with the idea that although we’re ready for this to happen, we don’t have any control of when the big day is. But today, I’m feeling much more relaxed. Seeing Jill with these painful contractions is hard, but she’s been handling them wonderfully. I have no doubt she’ll be a fantastic mother.
We’re writing down the time and duration of each contraction and she’s rating them on a scale of 1-10. As of 9pm tonight, we hit a 7.5. I hope we either move along soon or these subside for the night so Jill can get some rest.
We’re both very excited and very happy to hear all of the wonderful support and to feel all the excitement our friends and family have for us. This birth really feels like a team effort, thank you!
More updates as they come in…

Since we couldn’t travel very far this weekend we hung out in the city and had such a great time! On Saturday we went down to the Brooklyn Bridge Park and saw the Telectroscope – http://gothamist.com/2008/05/22/telectroscope_t.php After that, we had ice cream from the Brooklyn Creamery and then hopped on the water taxi to the South Street Seaport where we shopped and had a nice dinner.
On Sunday, Morgan and I took a trip down to Coney Island and I finally got the corn dog I’ve been craving for the past week! It was such a great beach day. We walked the boardwalk and then got our feet wet in the ocean.
On Monday we went up to Prospect Park (along with everyone else in Brooklyn). We sat in the sun and read non-baby books for a while and then our friends Allison and Geoffe picked us up and took us to Bay Ridge for SPUMONI GARDENS (the best pizza in the world, for those of you who don’t know). It was a fantastic weekend and it really helped take our minds off the waiting game we’re playing right now.
Speaking of which, we had another doctor’s appointment yesterday. The baby appears to be making some progress! She’s moved down a little bit and I am now dilated about 1 to 2 centimeters. We’re trying not to get too anxious though because you can be dilated like that for quite a while, but it’s good to know our little girl is actually taking steps towards getting out of there! I’ve also been having more contractions here and there – but again, that’s all par for the course and it could go on this way for another week or two. We’ll let you know if anything major happens, but for now, we’re still just enjoying our morning walks and our nice, quiet apartment…

We had another appointment with Dr. Kim yesterday. Everything still looks good, but apparently the baby has not dropped at all yet and it looks like the chances of me delivering before or even on my due date are slim. I guess our daughter is happy right where she is for now…
I also asked her about the size of the baby and while she said she couldn’t tell for sure at this point, I could probably get a good idea of how big our baby will be by how much my mother’s babies were. Of course, that makes me a little worried, seeing as Jordan and I were both over 9 pounds when we were born!
So now we keep waiting. Since we can’t really travel at this point we are staying here in Brooklyn this weekend. Morgan and I might take a trip down to Coney Island to check out the boardwalk and maybe indulge in some corndogs at Nathan’s.
I hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day and hopefully we’ll have some progress to report next week!

What a great weekend! I wasn’t expecting anything, but was surprised by cards, flowers and gifts for my first Mother’s Day (I guess Mother-To-Be Day would be more accurate). Morgan not only gave me a gorgeous diaper bag but he also finished making shelves for the baby’s clothes and put up her entire book collection on the wall. The “nursery” is really coming along – all we need now is the baby.
After we were done with our chores we got to show off all our new baby gear to our friends Allison and Geoffe and then we barbecued in the backyard (it was a little too chilly for outdoor dining, but we toughed it out). It was such a great day and I hope all my future Mother’s Days are that special.
This morning we had another doctor’s appointment. Everything is going well and the baby is still in the right position. Dr. Kim says I could go into labor at any time in the next five weeks, but I have a sneaking suspicion that this little girl isn’t going to come a minute early (Mom was late with me, Tate and Jordan and I’ll probably follow suit).
So now we wait…

Well, we finally took our childbirth education class this past weekend. It was really informative, but pretty exhausting as it ran most of the day. The instructor was a doula who definitely had a “no drugs” agenda, but she was really nice and we both learned a lot. She gave us lots of tips about how to deal with labor pain and focused quite a bit on how the support person (Morgan) can help throughout the entire childbirth process. I am proud to say that I watched a child be born and didn’t even get woozy! I hope this means I’m toughening up…
There was definitely an interesting group of people in the class. Most of the other couples were very young and many of the men looked like they had been dragged there against their will. I hate to admit this, but it definitely gave me and Morgan a shot of confidence – if they can do this, we can do this!
This morning we had another doctor’s appointment – this time we were back with Dr. Kim. She said everything looks great. I’ve developed hives on my hands and feet in the past few weeks and they are driving me crazy at night. Sometimes itchiness can be indicative of a problem with the liver or gall bladder, but apparently all my bloodword came back fine and I’m just suffering from allergies. I guess I’ll just have to deal with itchiness, but it’s getting increasingly difficult to sleep! On a very good note, Dr. Kim said the baby’s head is facing down the way it should be and hopefully she won’t do any flips in the next few weeks and we’ll be all set for labor.
That’s all for right now. I hope you’re all doing well and we’ll keep you posted on any further developments – it won’t be long now!!!
Love, Jill xoxo
