5 inches!

So we had our first hospital visit today. They had a much higher resolution sonogram machine this time, and what an amazing experience. I literally had my mouth open in amazement the whole time. There was our little guy/gal on his/her back. You can see arms and legs and a little pot belly! 12cm too (nearly 5 inches!). I can’t get over how fast the growth is. You read and hear about it, but its something alltogether different to see it with your own eyes.

The sonogram operator (she’s worth a post on her own…) had to move the paddle thing around a lot to get a look at things from different angles and to see if it would respond to movement. It was a little unnerving to see her wiggle it around almost violently. I nearly said something, like, ‘hey stop beating up my unborn child.’ I realized though that this is her job, and that’s what you do, and that our little 5 incher is protected by lots of fluids and cushions.

All of a sudden we could hear a fast heartbeat coming out of the TV. There was a waveform too illustrating what we heard. I hadn’t expected that at all! I nearly cried. I was holding Jill’s hand so hard and we just couldn’t say anything but keep looking back and forth between the screen and smiling at each other.

What a busy morning, all done before 9:00am! Well, we’re looking forward to a great Thanksgiving. I hope you all have a great Holiday too.

First Sonograms

Here’s what things looked like in October.

On October 10th, we had a fetus of only 9mm! (1/3 inch) The ultra sound was pretty accurate at predicting the term at 6 weeks and 6 days. Looks like a little jellybean, and about the same size!

We went back on Hallowe’en for another checkup and saw how our little jellybean had tripled in size! 26mm! That’s over an inch!

Looks like a little astronaut, floating upsidedown. Look at those little paddles!

We found out something neat too, Jill does a much better job giving blood while laying down :D

This is all exciting, but I know things will get even more real once we’ve grown a little more and we get a chance to hear a hearbeat – although even at this point you can see a little pulsing dot!

More soon!

Baby!

As many of you now know, Morgan and I are going to have a baby! We found out at the end of September and we are so excited to share our news with all of you. Of course, our first order of business was to get our website updated! We’ll be posting photos of our ultrasounds, updates on our progress and keeping you all in-the-know on what’s happening with Baby Turner.

Our official due date is May 30th, but apparently the baby can be born anywhere from two weeks before to two weeks after that date. There’s a lot to learn but we’re getting a lot of tips and support from friends and family which has been great.

So far we’ve had two doctor visits. I passed out at the first one when they tried to get some blood work done (most of you know about my aversion to needles) but the second one was much more successful. The baby is growing at the right rate and after a few rough weeks of nausea I’m feeling a lot better these days.

So that’s all the news for right now. We are so excited that we can share this with all of you!

Love,
Jill
